sustainability

For us, GreenSteel is more than just a trend.

We demonstrate that steel production and sustainability do not have to be mutually exclusive. We optimize processes, invest in energy-efficient technologies, and increasingly focus on sustainable supply chains. In an industry undergoing change, we see sustainability not as an add-on, but as an integral part of our thinking and actions.

For us, sustainability/GreenSteel is more than just a trend.

For us, sustainability means balancing economic, ecological, and social responsibility in the long term. We think beyond short-term effects: from the use of resource-saving technologies and the continuous optimization of our processes to close cooperation with partners along the entire supply chain. Climate change and increasingly scarce resources are forcing industry to rethink its approach. That is why we at Mendritzki have decided to make an active contribution.

But first:

What exactly is green steel?

The term "GreenSteel" is now widely used in the steel industry and generally refers to steel that is produced with reduced CO₂ emissions. But what does this term actually mean—and how can the "green" content be measured?

There are currently no uniform standards or binding definitions. This leaves room for interpretation and often makes comparisons between manufacturers difficult. To create transparency, climate impact is increasingly being measured using so-called scopes, i.e., three emission categories that extend along the entire value chain:

In a nutshell,"GreenSteel"is steel that is produced with reduced CO₂ emissions and the smallest possible ecological footprint.

This can involve a variety of approaches: from the use of renewable energies and recycled materials to the optimization of in-house manufacturing processes or logistics chains.

Sustainability is not a secondary consideration for us—it is a central component of our corporate strategy.

Our understanding of sustainability:

Responsibility—towards the environment, our employees, our customers, and future generations.

That is why we focus on efficiency, resource conservation, and long-term thinking in all our processes—from material procurement to the delivery of our products.

In doing so, we are concerned with more than just CO₂ reduction.

We focus on:

Sustainability is not a goal, but a journey. We are determined to follow this path – step by step.

For us, sustainability does not end at the factory gates. That is why we are committed to protecting wildlife and their habitats through our own foundation.

Commitment beyond the company—
Our foundation for wildlife and biotope protection

The purpose of the foundation is to maintain and promote animal welfare—in particular the protection and conservation of wildlife and the safeguarding of its natural habitat while respecting the country's culture—nature conservation, landscape conservation, and environmental protection.

Our goal: to protect nature and preserve habitats—for current and future generations.

BUT WE WANT EVEN MORE
